When you live in Buffalo, you know you are going to have to deal with snow, and LOTS of it.  As I type right now, I’m REALLY glad that I have the day off work, because we are getting pounded with snow! Check out the view from my back door – and it’s still coming down! FullSizeRender (6)

Living in a snow belt requires a lot of preplanning!  Questions like, should I shovel now, or wait? and Will we have a snow day? are questions we ask pretty regularly between November and February.  It’s extra important for me, because my daughter goes to school and I work almost an hour away from where we live, so it’s important for us to time our drives safely. Previously, I relied on getting up early or staying up late to try and catch the news – but now I have a brand new tool that is helping me to make my snow filled life easier! With my new SnowCast app for iOS, I can plan for snow!  You can download SnowCast in the app store for $2.99, and it is worth EVERY penny.  Let me tell you about some of its features that will have you falling in love with SnowCast if you live where it snows.   First of all, the interface is intuitive and easy to use.  Here’s what my homescreen looked like this morning: IMG_1789

As you can see, it’s easy to see in one glance what’s going on – I know we are getting almost five inches between now and 1 pm – so there’s no point in calling our plow guy to come before then!  I can also see that there’s a winter storm warning, and if I click on that, it takes me right to the announcement from the National Weather service.
But by FAR my favorite feature is the radar.  When I’m driving in Buffalo, we often have what is called “Lake Effect” snow.  Lake effect snow is pretty strange, because one minute you are driving in sunshine and the next it’s snowing so hard you can’t see two feet in front of you.  It travels in bands, and it’s brutal!  The radar on SnowCast is so easy to read, that I can tell where those bands are and decide whether I want to wait it out, or drive.  Here’s our radar from this morning:
As you can see, there aren’t many bands today – the whole area is getting blanketed!  So I know that I probably won’t be taking my kids anywhere until at least this afternoon, and my husband should probably reschedule is mid morning doctor’s appointment.  And I got that with NO searching, and no flipping between channels – SnowCast makes it easy and convenient.  Plus my kids love it for predicting snow days!
So if you are living the snow life, I can’t give a higher recommendation for SnowCast.  Head over to the app store and Download the app today!

I absolutely LOVE this app! I think I need to move somewhere where we would get a lot more snow but I would love a reason to use this app and often … at least during the winter months. Too cool!

This sounds like a wonderful app. It’s been snowing over here in Wisconsin as well. It’s been warming up lately though. I honestly want the snow to go away and have summer here.

This Snowcast app would be perfect up here in the U.P. of Michigan. The weather can change in a heartbeat so it is really hard to keep up with the weather forecast here. Thanks for sharing the app.

I love this app! I wonder if it’s predictability will work here in the foothills of Colorado. Where the forecast quite literally, changes every hour! Going to check this out right now! Thanks for sharing. ~Maria for Kelli

My parents could use something like this where they live. Where I live we don’t get any snow but my parents live actually close to the Canadian border so they get a lot and they could use this app I’m gonna have to tell them about it.
