There are few moments as sacred to childhood as the wonder of digging through a fresh box of cereal to uncover the prize inside. Combined with Saturday morning cartoons, it was pretty much the best thing about being a kid on the weekend. It was fun to see our youngest celebrate some of that childhood bliss with one of her favorite cereals (and which happens to have one of her favorite character toys inside – MINIONS!!!). Since our oldest is away this week, our youngest had the added sweetness of being able to take her time getting to the toy – a luxury seldom afforded to the youngest!

When you buy Family-Sized cereals, it can take awhile to get to the bottom of the box, so being there to pick out your favorites is kind of big deal. She was so excited to find that her favorite cereals were hosting Minion prizes inside while we were shopping at Walmart. There are seven different Minion toys that you can collect from specially marked Family Size General Mills cereals like Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Reese’s Puffs, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, and Golden Grahams.  But here’s the catch – you can ONLY get the 7th Minion (the prehistoric Minion!!!) at Walmart.

Unwilling to leave to chance that a prize would emerge during a standard pour, she elected to grab a measuring cup and go prospecting for her Minion. Generally this would be against the rules that I enforce of: 1 – No Digging, 2 – No Over-Pouring, 3 – No Picking Cereals You Don’t Eat Just Because You Like the Prize (said rules having been created a generation ago by my own parents in order to prevent the cereal battles from escalating to a cereal war) but since her sister is gone, we let her go nuts!

She didn’t have to go too far – you can tell by the smile on her face that her Minion has been spotted!  But will it be the elusive 7th Minion?

She was SO excited to find out which Minion she had received!! She could barely wait to rip it open!  It wasn’t the 7th Minion, but she didn’t mind AT ALL!

Most of us know the excitement of watching our kids have a moment or an experience that we enjoyed as kids, but the cereal prize moment is especially fun. As a kid it doesn’t get more excited, and as a parent you are excited for them, and by knowing that they are going to actually eat the cereal they just poured. It’s a blast to watch her enjoy things most of us have forgotten were important to us a few years ago.

As excited as we all are about the upcoming Minion movie, our house is in full-immersion in Minion mode! We will definitely be grabbing Family Sized boxes of General Mills cereal to try and find the 7th Minion (available ONLY at Walmart).

Make sure YOU stop by Walmart to grab a box of  specially marked General Mills cereal and let us know when you have found the 7th Minion! What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming Minion movie?

How fun that you can only find one of them at Walmart. I can see that means a lot more trips to Walmart just for cereal in your future.

A bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios sounds so YUMMY right now! I’d love to find the 7th Minion for myself (it’s so fun when searching for the rare thing and you finally find it.) <3

I won’t be searching for Minion toys and probably won’t be going to see the movie but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember trying to find prizes in boxes–not in cereal boxes–but in Cracker Jack Boxes!!
