There is little incentive to undertake any deep cleaning during the winter. The days are short and the nights are long, so most people prefer to spend their down time relaxing in front of the TV with the fire on. But as surely as day follows night, winter slowly turns into spring and the weather begins to improve. And when this happens, the time has come to give your home a rejuvenating spring clean. So where do you begin?
One Room at a Time
Cleaning an entire house takes a lot of time, so rather than starting multiple jobs you never finish, pick a room and stick with it until you have completed the task. It is a lot easier to work with one room at a time, and if you manage to finish this room, you will be inspired to continue with the next.
Multi-tasking is essential if you only have a short amount of time to complete your spring cleaning. Where possible, do two or more tasks at the same time to enable you to get more done. For example, whilst waiting for your conditioner to work during a shower, have a go at cleaning the bath or shower cubicle. Or, throw a load of washing into the machine and then do some dusting.
Make Use of Cleaning Technology
The good thing about modern technology is that it makes our lives a lot easier, and it is a godsend for busy people. Multi-functional vacuum cleaners don’t just clean the dust and grime from floors – they are also great at dusting soft furnishings and removing cobwebs. Steam cleaners and steam mops are also very useful as they kill germs without the need for bleach – just make sure you look at quality products such as Karcher steam cleaners to get the most for your money.
Protect Your Hands and Clothing
Cleaning is tough on the hands and repeatedly immersing them in buckets of hot water and detergents will cause them to redden and become sore. Cracked, inflamed skin can easily be avoided by wearing a cheap pair of rubber gloves when cleaning. Clothing needs to be protected, too, so either wear an apron or throw on an old t-shirt so you don’t ruin your favourite jumper with bleach.
Spring cleaning is a lot easier if you have a helping hand. Instead of trying to clean the entire house on your own, enlist the help of family members. Whatever the reason they don’t help out around the home, it is everyone’s responsibility to do it, so assign each person a task and let them get on with it. Even small children can be given a feather duster and instructed how to clean a bookcase or two. If you play your cards right, the whole house will be cleaned from top to bottom in a few hours, thus leaving you plenty of time to relax for the rest of the day.
Spring cleaning needn’t be a massive chore if you plan it in advance, have everything you need to hand, and make sure you get some help!
