Summertime is HERE in Western New York! This past weekend for us, that meant temperatures in the 90s, which for those of you from the South is pretty laughable but for us up here, is HOT.  So this meant a trip to the pool is a MUST!

Trips to the pool are so much fun for my girls, who LOVE to swim.  But for me, it can also be something else to worry about.  Sun exposure is something that I’m very concerned about, as my grandfather had several instances of melanoma removed, and I’ve hard several moles of concern that were tested.  So it goes without saying that I wear sunscreen EVERY day. This is why I was so excited to here that Neutrogena® is leading a call to action to moms to use sunscreen in front of their kids to demonstrate the importance of daily sunscreen use.  Everyone who has EVER said a naughty word around a toddler knows that kids LOVE to mimic the adults in their life, so I think the #MimicMommy campaign is pretty awesome thing! In addition to naughty words, kids are more likely to adopt healthy habits like using sunscreen if they see Mom doing it first!

Check out this AWESOME – and HILARIOUS video telling you all about the #MimicMommy campaign!

Sooo, funny right??  But the message is definitely serious.  Did you know that only 1-2 severe and painful sunburns can increase the risk of melanoma by 40 percent?  That’s pretty scary as a mom, so #MimicMommy Mondays are serving me as a reminder that I am committed to instilling sun safe behaviors in my girls – so I make sure that they see me applying sunscreen on me…AND we have joined the Mimic Mommy campaign.

Check out OUR video, and try not to laugh at my rapping!

I have to tell you – we had SO much fun making that video! And while we had fun, it was a great time to share some critical information to my kids to help protect them and make them part of the first sun-safe generation! For example, they didn’t know that 350 Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every hour.

I just love Neutrogena sunscreens – I’ve used them for years and they are always fantastic, but I’m really loving their Beach Defense® line because it provides superior skin protection from harsh summer elements and clinically proven to help defend the signs of sun damage.  Plus the Beach Defense® Sunscreen Spray is EASY to apply (you saw my kids use it in the video) and Neutrogena® Beach Defense® Water + Sun Protection Sunscreen Stick Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ is FANTASTIC for faces.

I have VERY sensitive skin and this doesn’t bother me at all, feel greasy, or cause me breakouts.  Plus, they are water resistant for 80 minutes, which means more fun at the pool!

You can buy Beach Defense products here, and I highly recommend Neutrogena’s entire line – there is a sunscreen for every member of your family (check out the Pure & Free® Baby Sunscreen SPF 50 for your baby!)

And, to put a cherry on the top of this skin-cancer preventing sundae, Neutrogena is donating $10,000 to the Children’s Melanoma Prevention Foundation – I just LOVE companies that give back!

And moms, get out your cameras! It’s time to teach your kids how to #MimicMommy so we can create the first sun-safe generation together! Neutrogena is going to award THREE Parent Palace readers a chance to win a #MimicMommy sunscreen kit, including select sunscreen products for the family! Come back every day for daily entries! We use sunscreen year round, and I pick up extra coverups at thrift shops. I make sun hats and they get lots of use every day!

These are all great tips for teaching our children about sun safe habits. Our kids learn from us about everything and will indeed mimic everything we do at one point or another. Neutrogena has great products and the Beach Defense Sunscreen Spray is something I will have to pick up for sure. Thanks for sharing the campaign and the information.

Love the Neutrogena has all of these products to help protect our skin from the sun. It’s important that we teach the kids to apply sunscreen as well. I’m sure once they see you doing it regularly, it’s going to be easier for them to get used to applying sunscreen all the time.

Neutrogena Beach Defense 30 is always in my beach bag! I never spend time in the sun without it. We call my daughter the sunscreen queen because she has 4 boys – 2 of them gingers – and she’s got the sunscreen applications and reapplications down pat.

I use Neutrogena because it’s really perfect for delicate skin. Using sunblock is really important for the skin to protect you from the UV rays of the sun.
