Have you seen the show Yo-kai Watch yet? If you haven’t, chances are you will be hearing about it soon!
Not only is Yo-kai Watch a super cute cartoon, now, it’s a game that your kids, frankly, are going to go nuts for. Yo-kai Watch was a HUGE hit in Japan, and now, for the first time, it’s available in the United States! You can pick it up for your kiddos for their Nintendo 2DS or 3Ds systems, including the new Nintendo 3DS XL, which after having given an try, is going to end up on quite a few birthday and Christmas lists this year!
We had not heard of the game before, but my daughter loves to game and we are HUGE Nintendo fans – MarioKart is a practically the family sport – so we were all super stoked to try it out – even me. But as a parent, you may be wondering what the game is really all about. First all, it’s rated E, so this should be good for even the youngest players (at least in my mom opinion).
Yo-kai are invisible monsters, and they can be behind many of the common troubles we face everyday, like lost keys or running late. In order to play the game, you have to find the Yo-kai, make friends with them, and form a team that battles other Yo-kai.
The game is very, very intuitive. Once we got her new Nintendo 3DS XL up and running, she was playing within minutes – so it’s very child friendly! She was engrossed in minutes…for those of you that don’t know it, that is the face of a serious gamer in action….
I haven’t got to play yet (which tells you how popular it already is in my house) but the basics are pretty fun. You start out by finding hidden Yo-kai, and assemble a team of six to help defeat evil you encounter and help people. Each Yo-kai is different, and you use different strategies to assemble your team to choose the best Yo-kai that you have, and your Yo-Kai become more powerful and get upgrades as you keep playing.
This past weekend, I was down with a nasty cold. As it was just me and my daughter at home, this can be rough, as she definitely likes her mom time….but Yo-kai was the word of the day…I actually had to have her stop playing at some point because she would have been happily to play quietly all day! While she loves to game, I have never actually seen her do that with a game before, so I know that Yo-kai Watch is going to be around as a hit for a long time in my house!
