I don’t do the whole countdown to new movies like the kids do – usually. But this December 18 is a different story. In fact, I will probably brave the crazy lines of holiday merrymakers to get my ticket to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it makes its theatrical debut. You see, I don’t like to advertise it, but I am a Jedi. Seriously, I had a membership card in 1982 and it said that I was a Jedi-in-training. It’s official. And since I never resigned my commission and always got out of bed for school whenever my R2-D2/C-3PO alarm clock told me to, I am pretty sure that I am still in good standing with the Jedi.

Imagine the excitement when I found out that our family game night was going to feature 3 ridiculously awesome games with a Star Wars theme. Perhaps I should have told my own young Jedi that I had an unfair advantage since I have been a rebel for so long, but I am not sure if they are going to the Dark Side or not, so I don’t want to tip my hand until they embrace the Force.

We were lucky enough to get to try out some of the latest offerings from the Hasbro Toy Shop which included a great mix of knowledge, ability, and luck for all of us to try.

We started with Catch Phrase:  Star Wars Edition. You choose a difficulty level and test each team’s trivia skills and speed by describing the STAR WARS phrases as they appear on the device.  You can say anything but the words on the screen to get your teammate to guess.

This one was fun, but we have a little one who is 9 that wanted to play, too. She did struggle a little with the vocab, but was still able to play and have fun!  It was a great, fast-paced game. I can definitely see this one being a blast for parties, and especially if you are partying with fellow fans of the franchise.

The next game we played was STAR WARS Loopin’ Chewie Game. This one is lots of action and a bit of luck! This one is definitely suitable to get the younger members of the family involved and most little ones will pick it up quickly. It’s fun for the grownups, too. I don’t even remember how many rounds we played, but they were all fun! Plus, the image of Chewie on the Falcon is awesome! I don’t have a tattoo, but if I get one, the pic above is a finalist for what it will look like. Basically, you push the arms to send Chewie flying to knock out your opponent’s coins – it’s a fast play and tons of fun.

Next we picked up what may become a family rivalary – BOP IT! STAR WARS R2-D2 Edition!

My take: I have never played any other version of BOP IT! I didn’t even know that there were other versions, but no matter. This is an absolutely ridiculous amount of fun with R2-D2 serving as the conduit for manipulation in response to the commands from C-3PO. This is a great game of “I got 66 points! Try to beat it!”, I was (maybe still am) instantly attached to this one – maybe it’s because of the C-3PO sleeping bag I had when I went to my first sleepover – and it is as much fun the 20th time you play it as it is the first time. It’s great for all ages and grandpa will like it as much as the kids.  I love sharing my love of Star Wars with the girls – plus it brings back GREAT childhood memories.

And here’s the GREAT news! Through Monday, November 23, 2015, you can enter to win your own 1 of 5 Hasbro Star Wars Prize Packs (each valued at $64.99). Just select a social media sharing option from the social media tool. I-C will randomly select 5 winners from all program entries and will handle fulfillment of the winning prizes.

I need to check these games out for my grandson. Everything on his Christmas list is Star Wars related. Looks like it’s going to be a Star Wars Christmas for him.
