As summer is winding down, there is still time to work in a quick family vacation or road trip!  If you are looking for your next great place to go, consider Alabama!

Does your family like to eat as much as mine does?  When we travel, trying local cuisine is a MUST! And when it comes to food, there isn’t much that compares to Southern BBQ. I have lived in some states that lay claim to the best barbecue in the country, but Alabama has taken it one step further. The Alabama Tourism Department has declared 2015 as the Year of Alabama BBQ, and that makes this the tastiest time ever to visit Alabama! Alabama’s BBQ restaurants are consistently featured as the best in the country, and Alabama was named as the “Most BBQ Crazed State in the US” in 2014, according to Estately.com  So your foodie family is sure to find plenty that they enjoy in Alabama!

Alabama’s Gulf Shores has something for everyone in the family, including sugar-white beaches, golf courses, amazing seafood, fishing and other water sports, and historic sites for the history buff in the family!  You are sure to find something that pleases EVERYONE in Alabama.

The State of Alabama has some truly great roadtrips to suit every taste.  Is history your family’s thing?  Check out the Alabama Civil Rights Trail Smartphone App!  This app will help you and your family discover civil rights landmarks across the state, and gives you biographies of important civil rights leaders, and provides an interactive timeline as you visit important Civil Rights sites across Alabama.  How much will this impress your kids’ teachers when they write their “What I Did This Summer” essays?

Growing up in Atlanta we only visited Alabama to pick up fireworks or when driving through. I’ll definitely have to explore more next time we’re there.

I would not have thought that Alabama had beautiful sugar white sandy beaches! Good to know in the event we decide to drive out to Daytona next year, we would pass through Alabama but could make a few more vacation stops along the way.
