Thanks to Motorola for turning us on to the 2-ways. The product is theirs, but the opinions are mine.
When trying to pick out a gift for my dad for Father’s Day, I tend to gravitate either towards the tech side or the wide world of outdoor activities. For Father’s Day this year, I am getting him something with its description tethered to both! Whether your father tends more to the hiking, biking, and paddling trails, the campsite, or the open road, odds are the one thing he always taught you is the importance of good communication. Show Dad you were paying attention with a great Father’s Day gift from Motorola. The Talkabout® 2-Way Radios from Motorola have quickly become one of my must-haves for adventure, and although dad and I no longer share the same campground, I think he will definitely be excited about the Motorola Talkabout MH230R!
Talkabout® 2-Way Radios by Motorola makes your on-the-go communication issues much more manageable. With a range of up to 23 miles, you are going to be able to stay in touch. Obviously if you are hiking in the hills or mountains, or doing some canyoneering, that distance is going to drop some due to the topography. But if you are in open country, or cruising down the interstates across the country, you should be able to keep in reliable touch with your party. During a trip through Kansas we had no cell reception whatsoever and our 2-way radios continued to perform.
I am keenly aware of the concerns of extra weight for batteries, as well as the environmental and financial concerns that understandably arise when you are talking about portable electronics. But the Talkabout® 2-way Radios can work either with your traditional batteries, or with the NiMH rechargeable internal battery – you can even recharge the battery with the mini-USB port while you are in the car.
Whether your purpose is emergency preparation (it has NOAA Weather Channels), adventure communication (it’s water resistant so take it outside), or just staying in touch from one roadtrip car to another, this is a great set-up for you. I love the reliability of Motorola equipment and I really like the options that this radio set includes that you don’t always see in others. The units can be used hands-free with or without accessories, 10 call tones to allow you to alert others that you want to talk to them, and a scan feature that lets you search programmed list of channels and codes to find transmissions. With a range of up to a mile in urban areas, up to 6 miles across a lake, and up to 23 miles mountain to valley, you have the safe reassurance of reliable communication.
A lot of lessons that my dad tried to teach me never really took hold (my bed isn’t even made right now). But when it comes to shopping for electronics and sporting goods, I think I will make him proud this Father’s Day. T
The fact that I have a set of Talkabout® 2-Way Radios by Motorola myself only means I was doing my homework on his gift. Dad was always big on me doing my homework.
