Happy National Empanada Day! If you haven’t had an empanada, today is the day to search one out and have one. Empanadas are tasty Latin American treats that can be either baked or fried and consist of dough or bread stuffed with any number of fillings, but traditionally with meat and cheese. While I LOVE empanadas, I have never tried to make them myself at home. This all changed when I got the change to try out the IMUSA Empanada Maker!
The IMUSA Empanada Maker is the perfect size for your kitchen counter and it set up to make four empanadas at a time. It comes with a recipe booklet filled with yummy recipes from breakfast to dessert! I have never made empanadas before, but I was excited to give it a try. There was a fairly simple recipe for Pizza Empanadas that I wanted to try out! I was able to easily find pre-made empanada dough at my local grocery store, so this made this SO easy. I simply combined a jar of store-bought pizza sauce, a package of mozzarella cheese, and a package of pepperoni cut into chunks. The recipe didn’t call for it, but I also added a little garlic salt, oregano powder, and some red pepper to give it a kick. I stirred it up in a bowl…
I then spooned some of the filling into the middle of the dough disc, and then wet the outer edge of the disc with some water, folded it over, and pressed, sealing in all of the yummy goodness. You then just place them in the Imusa Empananda Maker (which I had plugged in to preheat – a green light comes on when it it ready), and lock the lid.
Most of the recipes in the book take 7-12 minutes, and you can open the empanada maker to check to see if they are brown enough. I can’t even tell you HOW EASY this was. The empanadas were so easy to assemble, and then you just set it and forget it! The Imusa Empanada Maker makes it easy to make perfect empanadas that aren’t fried, so they are healthier. 10 minutes later, and we had these beautiful little handheld pizza pies!
The IMUSA Empanada Maker is so easy to clean up too! You just wipe it down with a paper towel while the empanada maker is still warm and any little leakages are cleaned up in a jiffy. I can’t wait to experiment more with fillings- especially with dessert! The Pizza Empanadas were SO good. The crusts were perfectly crisp, with no hint of chewiness, and the insides were piping hot and full of cheesy goodness.
I really can’t tell you how quick and easy these were to make – a great twist on pizza night that was FAR cheaper than ordering a pizza, and much faster than waiting on takeout! I highly recommend that you that you try out the IMUSA Empanada Maker if you are a empanada fan like you – you will be cooking up empanadas on your own in no time!
