I received a $50.00 gift card to Applebee’s for the purposes of this review. All opinions on the food and service are completely my own.
We had a surprise dinner at Applebee’s today. The surprise was that I asked for one menu and didn’t let my husband see that the choices I gave him were from the under 550 calorie menu. My husband and I both like to eat and feel full after our meal, so we are the perfect critics when it comes to rating a satisfying meal. I gave him 6 choices, which were all from the under 550 calorie menu but I didn’t tell him about the low calories. I told him I was doing a blog review on taste buds and he was game because as I said, we both love a good meal. The menu included many options but these were the three that we narrowed it down to.
- Roma Pepper Steak which is a 7 oz sirloin perfectly paired with red potatoes and a portobello mushroom cap stuffed with a creamy white wine artichoke cheese spread.
- Creamy Parmesan Chicken which comes with a chicken breast smothered in a parmesan sauce served with spinach and a mushroom rice pilaf.
- Savory Cedar Salmon served with vegetables and herbed potatoes
From those three we decided he would try the Roma Pepper Steak because it sounded too yummy to pass up. After the meal I asked him what his favorite part was and he, as usual he enjoyed the steak best but he surprised me with what he said next. He loved the Portobello mushroom cap! I never thought he would enjoy a mushroom but since he was trying it as apart of this review he decided to keep and open mind and I am so happy he did. I asked him next to guess the amount of calories he thought was in his complete meal. He knew I was up to something all along so he guessed low but it still wasn’t even close.
He said 1500. Although he said if he had not been suspicious that I was up to something he would have guessed much higher. When I told him it was from the under 550 calorie menu he didn’t believe me and requested a menu to look for himself!
The waitress probably thought we were crazy but she gave us great service anyway. My only complaint was that my daughter’s burger was undercooked and the broccoli looked a little dehydrated rather than steamed but I would still rate my visit as a great experience. I enjoyed my food, my husband ate something healthy and we shared a fun evening at Applebee’s, life is good!
