Family Movie Fun with The Croods
Have you heard of the new family movie, The Croods? If you haven’t, you must be living under a rock (hehe, get it?), because even we have heard of this one! My oldest daughter has been showing us previews on the computer for over a week – she was in love with it before she knew what it was about!
About The Croods
THE CROODS is a 3D comedy adventure that follows the world’s first modern family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always been their home is destroyed. Traveling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods are rocked by generational clashes and seismic shifts as they discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever.
Starring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman.

(I don’t want to tell you any spoilers so I will refrain from telling you details of the movie that you can’t see during a trailer preview or clip)
My family attended a screening of The Croods in Orlando this weekend for St. Patrick’s Day. I was a little worried that Jagger (2 year old) wouldn’t sit through the entire feature. I was pleasantly surprised to see him still as could be, with this 3D glasses on, in his Daddy’s lap for 80% of the movie! Once he and I stepped out for a quick diaper change, he was again sitting quietly and commenting on the parts he found “cool” or “awesome” (yes, my two year-old uses those words – it is amazing what they pick up from older siblings).
After the movie was over I asked everyone what they thought, my husband said it was the best family movie he has seen in years! My kids all agreed with him that is was wonderful and they asked if we could buy the movie when it comes out on DVD!
My son’s favorite part is when Thunk tells Douglas to roll over and he falls off the mountain…
Both of my girls and my husband love a part of the movie that I can’t tell you about – sorry! I haven’t seen it on a preview yet so I can’t tell you. But I CAN tell you that it is hilarious and involves a croodaceous creature!
My favorite part of the movie is …..I can’t tell you much… the stars! They were beautiful! Truly amazing.
There were some subtle 3D effects but there were a few things I think they could have added to it. I would have loved to dodge a bolder or two. That would have been funny to see everyone in the theater moving out of the way of something that isn’t there!
We loved all of the wonderful animals that were created for this film but our favorite was the Macawnivore! He was a saber tooth tiger colored like a macaw! He was beautiful!
Other creatures were a Crocopup, Girelephant, Jackrobat, Punch Monkey, Liyote, Mousephant, Fish Cat, Bear Owl, Bear Pear, Trip Gerbils, and Ramu. Can you guess what is what?
Get Ready & Stay Excited
The Croods have their own website! That’s right! You can get your kids ready to see the movie, or enjoy the Croods after the show by visiting their website. There, you can order your movie tickets, play online games, preview mobile apps, download screen savers & images, print and create paper projects, watch preview trailers & clips, and meet the Croods family. I had a great time playing around with it myself…. never-mind the kids. For each online game I won we received a free printable worksheet for the little ones to enjoy! (This homeschooling mom is a printable’s junkie!)
If you CAN see this movie in theater – do it! It was wonderful! We would actually go and see it again if we could. If nothing else, we will be buying it as soon as it becomes available on DVD.
It was funny, all the way through. I almost cried in a part or two. Overall, it was amazing and as my husband said, it was
The best family movie we have seen in years!
