Love is in the air and it’s time for Valentines Day Crafts Projects to decorate your home. I don’t like to go to the store to buy new decorations and home decor items with each season or holiday. I prefer to make my own Valentines Day crafts projects and use those to brighten up our home.
Thing’s You’ll Need
- Several sheets of origami paper in bright colors
- Needle and thread
- Vase or mason jar
- Something to hold the branch steady. I used tissue paper. You could use pretty rocks or vase gems if you prefer.
How to Make It
Create 6-8 origami hearts using the instructions here (#4 Change of Heart).
Trim the branch to the right size for your vase. Carefully poke a hole in the top of each heart & put the needle with thread through it, knotting the end. Tie the other end to the branch varying lengths.
The basis of this craft is origami which is the Japanese art of paper folding. “Ori” is the Japanese word for folding and “kami” is the Japanese word for paper. Origami actually started in China in the first or second century and then spread to Japan during the sixth century. In the beginning, origami creations were made from scraps of paper in an effort not to allow anything to go to waste. As it gained in popularity, special papers were created for people to use when doing origami projects.
Origami paper is available in a variety of sizes but is always square. Sizes include 3″x3″, 6″x”6, and 10″x10″. The origami hearts created in this project are made using 6″x6″ square origami paper.
The origami hearts can be the starting point for many different Valentines Day crafts projects including Valentines Day cards and framed art.
