Superbowl Desserts with #CoolWhipFrosting #cbias
Will you hate me if I admit I don’t watch the Superbowl for the football? Please don’t, but it’s true! There are only 2 reasons I care about the Superbowl: the awesome commercials and entertaining friends and family. I don’t get football – the different plays, rules, penalties – all I know is when a team makes it to the end zone with a football they score. That’s enough, right?
This year I’m trying something different for our Superbowl party. Normally I make everything from scratch, which takes forever. I just don’t have the time to do that this year, so instead of homemade frosting, I’m going with Cool Whip Frosting. I’m using the Cool Whip Frosting to create a football stadium cake, and I think I have it down!I wanted to get some practice in so I headed up to Walmart to get the Cool Whip Frosting, which is in the frozen section with the ice cream. You can see my entire trip in my Google+ album.
I made a chocolate cake, lightly modifying (I added a little extra vegetable oil) the recipe for Hershey’s Chocolate cake. I left the cake upside down so I could have a flat surface to work with. I added a few drops of green food coloring to the Vanilla Cool Whip Frosting and spread that on the cake. Then I dyed 2 cups of coconut green and mixed that in with the frosting. The Cool Whip container was the perfect vessel for dying the coconut! The dyed coconut added a great texture to the cake so it was more AstroTurf like. My coconut was a little too dark, so I added some more Cool Whip to lighten it up.The next part is where it got tricky for me: the yard lines. I don’t have steady hands at all, so I’m going to have to get John to do these for me Saturday for our new cake. Since I made a 13x9 cake I had to reduce the amount of lines ( I did 50 yards, 30 yards & 10 yards.) I’m thinking we’ll be using pretzels dipped in dyed white chocolate to make the uprights. They didn’t want to work the way I tried, so hopefully this idea will.
Creating the football field cake was super fun, and sneaking a swipe of the Cool Whip Frosting now and then was even better. I love how easy it is to use. I let it sit out for about 10 minutes before using it. It loads in my icing bag flawlessly and comes out so smooth and delicious.
I bought a mini football mold from Amazon and made football shaped brownies also. I used one of these as the center of the stadium cake. I’ll be frosting these with Cool Whip chocolate frosting for our Superbowl party, and can’t wait to hear what people think. We are definitely loving the cake – eating it was the best part!
I can’t wait to use Cool Whip Frosting in the future. It’s easy, affordable and delicious – everything I look for in, well, anything haha. Check out the Cool Whip Facebook page for some awesome inspiration today. Also, use this coupon to save on your Cool Whip Frosting purchase!
