Up until he was 8, my son was beyond reluctant to pick up a book. It’s not that he couldn’t read, he just wasn’t interested. If it wasn’t electronic and/or made noise his attention was elsewhere. There were constant struggles to try to encourage him to read. I tried bribery, ultimatums, positive reinforcements – nothing worked.
One day in 3rd grade he came home with a Goosebumps book. I was stoked, but knew not to make a big deal of it or he wouldn’t bring another book home. I watched him as he read it after meals, on the weekends and before bed. After that day he was bringing home a new book each week. He was telling me about the stories and the characters, and I loved his excitement.
Sadly where we live there isn’t an abundance of age appropriate books. Eventually he is going to run out of options and I’m terrified it will hinder his interest in reading. Thankfully there’s solution to this lack of new books. That solution is Bookboard.
What is Bookboard
Bookboard is a children’s book service that encourages and supports a new generation of readers with a different approach to reading on digital devices. Rather than providing a digital marketplace where families buy and download books, Bookboard offers an affordable subscription service that allows instant exploration of a vast, curated library.
Bookboard aims to inspire young readers by helping them discover new titles and earn fun achievements. As they read, families discover, unlock, and collect great stories to foster a sense of accomplishment that keeps kids coming back for more. At the same time, parents can track reading progress, and use our fun metrics to motivate kids to read even more.
While we don’t currently have an iPad, the investment seems well worth it at the moment. If he would read instead of playing a game or watching videos while we’re traveling it’s definitely worth it.
So, Why Choose Bookboard?
