My kiddo is BIG into music. She loves anything that she can use to make music with, like her xylophone and maracas. One day, at a music-themed play date, we made our own music makers/maracas! It was SO easy, and you probably have everything needed on hand in your home.

What you need:

  • A plastic water bottle
  • Rice
  • Construction paper
  • Markers
  • Tape

What you do:
1. Cut a strip of construction paper to fit around your bottle, and have your kiddo draw on it to decorate it. I wrote my daughter’s name on hers, which you can choose to do for your child as well.

2. Fill the bottle about 1/3 full with rice, and put the lid back on.

3. Tape construction paper to the bottle.

That’s it! It’s so super simple and takes just minutes to make. The best part is that your child gets to help as well and, if yours is anything like mine, helping will make them just as happy as using it to make music will!
