Do you fight your kids for control of your tablet/iPad?
It’s a proven fact that if you have a tablet/iPad and a child(ren), said tablet/iPad will soon become the fascination of said child(ren). Trust me on this! In today’s tech driven world, kids are becoming more advanced than parents; another proven fact. It amazes me how quickly these little people can catch on to the advancement in technology. My son can pick up any video game and controller and do as well or better than his game obsessed father. He also types at an average of 23 WPM. Insane, right?
My 5 year old nephew just started school and is having a few issues. He enjoys learning, but has trouble staying focused in a large classroom. Because of this he’s often delayed from the rest of the class. However, much like his cousin, he’s able to pick up video games and play all day long with constant progression. He’s also more than a little obsessed with my tablet. Whenever he comes over (which is a few times a week) he grabs it; whether I’m using it or not. Who am I to fight with a 4 year old?!
Since I do a bit of work on the tablet I needed a way to reclaim it and keep him happy at the same time. Afterall, that’s my job as an aunt – to keep the nieces and nephew happy. Anyway – we received the new VTech Innotab 2S to review and I’ve never seen this kid happier. Since he’s the perfect age range for the Innotab 2Sgiving it to him was the obvious choice. At least after I talked myself out of keeping it!
The InnoTab was a huge hit right off the bat. Of course it was; it looks very similar to my current tablet – and has almost the same functionality! He didn’t believe me when I told him it was his. He was expecting me to ask for it back. Once it sunk in that I wasn’t taking it back he was eager to see all the features. The first thing he pointed out was the cartridge that came with it. He wanted to jump right in, but I was curious to see what all it could do first. And to see how he adapted to using it.
That was silly of me because he had it figured out while I was still reading the manual. “Smile, Ama” *click*. He had the camera figured out! Needless to say I didn’t have time to smile before he took the picture; but he was thrilled that it had a built in camera. While the pictures aren’t perfect quality, they are perfect for younger kids.
The InnoTab 2S has WiFi capabilities that allow you to download apps and games right onto the device. You can visit the VTech Online University for some really great learning tools. I love this capability since my nephew isn’t the best at keeping up with his game cartridges. Of course you can buy cartridges if you prefer. The Learning Lodge Navigator also offers the ability to download e-books. This is perfect for an early reader like my nephew.
Another fantastic feature of the InnoTab 2S is the Art Studio. Conner plays with this for hours at a time. I love the creativity this brings to life. It’s incredible to see the excitement on a child’s face and this puts it there.
More InnoTab 2S Features

Aside from the picture quality, the only other issue I’ve had with the InnoTab was the battery life. It dwindles fairly quick and there is no AC adapter included with the Innotab. I 100% recommend this to any parent who is looking for a solution to helping their children enjoy learning. This not only mimics your tablet but offers so many learning tools they wont even realize it’s educational! The InnoTab 2S retails for $99.99 and is designed for children ages 3-9.
Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for VTech and received a VTech InnoTab 2S to facilitate my review.
