If any of my children are/were a Rockin’ Baby it would have to be Jagger. It all started during his first pediatrician appointment. The receptionist asked “Who are you signing in?”
I responded with “Jagger”.
He said “Oh, cool! This is Jagger? I love his name! What is his middle initial?”
I said “R”.
He then stated “Like in Rock Star?”….
While Jagger’s middle name isn’t “Rock Star”, we now joke that it is. His favorite toys are his guitars and he attempts to play every instrument in the house if we don’t put the up out of his reach. I can’t wait to see if this love of his continues into something great.
What do you read to a future rock star?…
The book Rockin’ Babies, by Cynthia Weil and Dr. Jenn Berman, of course! This board book is a fantastic metaphorical comparison of rock stars and babies. Sure they are far from the same, but they sure do share some similarities… like being allowed to trash their rooms, spit on authority, and have adoring fans taking their pictures all the time.
This is a cute and fun book. Jagger loves it. It is one of the few books he will settle down and let me read to him. He enjoys pointing to the various illustrations of things familiar to him – guitars, stroller, the “cool car” toy. It is especially cute when I go ask him to find his book. He walks around asking everyone “Where Rockin’ Baby” – love it!
Thoughts & Recommendations
The illustrations in this book are vibrant with a modern feel. I love all of the cute Rockin’ Babies – girls and boys – that are shown in them. The toys and scenery being familiar to a baby/toddler really help to keep their attention on the book. As I stated above, this is the only book I can get Jagger to sit for. (Great illustrations are what keeps him in his seat.)
The content in the book is silly and fun and I recommend it be taken that way. No, children shouldn’t purposely “spit on authority figures” or “trash their rooms”. However, if anyone could get away with it – it is a baby… I can imagine that someone who is slightly uptight might miss the purpose of this book and take a page or two differently.
I, most certainly, recommend this book to parents, family, and friends of Rockin’ Babies!

The swag bag was a real hit in our house. All of my children took off with something… My girls attacked the piggy paint and my oldest son took off with the RockBandz. Jagger was able to keep the Baby Banz, Sourpuss socks, Signing Time DVD & CD, and one set of My Little Legs away from the big kids. I was able to salvage the rest for Jillian. (By salvage, I mean, the big kids couldn’t come up with a reasonable excuse to take off with it so it was left behind for her. Wasn’t that nice of them?)
What everyone in my family went for was the Rockabye Baby CD…. nothing like hearing Bohemian Rhapsody or Fat Bottomed Girls in lullaby form! It became a game of “guess that song” for almost an hour. Even with everyone talking loud – Jillian still slept.
