Tired of having to stash your keys and purse somewhere different everyday? Don’t want to shell out $30 at Target? Well, this simple DIY project is for you. It is super easy to do and should cost you less than $8 to get the whole project done!
To get started head to your local home improvement store. Most of these stores have a wood scrap pile where you can find great pieces of wood for extremely cheap. This piece of pine only cost me 15 cents to score!
Now that you have your wood, you need to pick out your hooks. These hooks cost about $1.50, but you can save more money here if you don’t care what your hooks look like. On the flip side, the project can be a little bit more expensive if you choose a more decorative looking hook.
If you don’t have stain handy around the house, the last thing you need is a jar of wood stain. I happened to have some left over from a previous project so the stain didn’t cost me anything! When picking a stain, make sure to pick something that you are going to love for a while. There is nothing worse than staining something and finding out you aren’t absolutely in love with the color.
Now that you have all of your supplies, head home and get started. First step is to stain the board. This can take 1-2 coats depending in the desired color. Just make sure the board is completely dry before adding the hooks.
Once the board is dry, even space your hooks on your board. Make sure they are tight, and you are all ready to hang it up on your wall!
It’s that easy. This whole project should only take you 45 minutes (not including drying time) from start to finish. No large tools required, and you have a great finished look to hang all those things as soon as you come in the door!

This is such a cute and rustic looking coat rack, and so simple to put together, even those of us who are tool-challenged can handle it. I think I am going to make a nice long one for my mud room to keep all the clutter out there.
