Beat The Buzzer

Chaos, I tell you.  Simply chaos around these parts these days.

Our house is leaving much to be desired in the clean department.  I am not talking like uninhabitable by any means but it seems like it is a never ending battle.  I wish I could just win one of these days.

Every.Day.

My sink is forever filled with dirty dishes.

My love seat doubles as a laundry basket.

Don’t even get me started on my refridgerator.  I think there is a science experiment growing in there somewhere.  I just have to find it first.

Unfortunately, there is no cleaning fairy that visits our house so it looks like I better roll up my sleeves, maybe grab a pair of gloves and get’er done (stomping my feet and gritting my teeth).

But it gets so overwhelming at times after putting in a full days work, picking up kiddos, making dinner, baths, homework ….I know Whaaa-Whaaa-Whaa.  Tell you something you don’t already know, right?

But here is thing, I decided to make a change.  No, I didn’t hire anybody (I wish).  I instead decided to start playing Beat The Buzzer (again) and I am going to  try get the little involved, too (hopefully).

Each day I am going to tackle a cleaning project.  That sounds really bad.  I am going to tackle a single chore.  Whether that be clean out the fridge.  Wash down the walls. Organize a cabinet, closet, etc.  And I am going to try and beat the buzzer while doing so.  I will attempt to assign other small chores to the littles such as picking up all their toys in the living room or putting their books back up on their book shelf.

I am going to set our timer for one half hour after dinner to focus on these chores. I figure this way we won’t get so overwhelmed and burn out.  Perhaps I am on to something that will tame the chaos.

What is the method you use to get through all your daily chores?

I’m new to your blog, so maybe you already know this site, but in case you don’t, check out Flylady (www.flylady.net). If I ever just stuck to her ideas, things would not be so chaotic around here all the time!

Oh dear…same here in Malaysia! Every night, after I put ‘everyone’ to bed…I sweep, mop the floor..from front door to the back from ground floor the 2nd floor…including the stairs..and make sure everything is in place and tidy..So, when I get up the next day..I’ll have a clean and tidy house to cheer me up!

Bet your house isn’t the only one that looks like this!

I’m visiting from the Social Online Conference. I’m also a Mom of 4 and I completely understand. With all the various activities in our family ,even though I don’t work outside the home, I’m dealing with the same issues. Beat the buzzer has been a winner in our home before (we do 15 min clean-up twice a day) we just haven’t done it consistently. I use Chorebuster.net and assign chores to the kiddos to help keep us on track.
