Review: Fischer & Wieser sauces
Are you tired of cooking the same old thing every week? One of the hardest parts about cooking, at least for me, is that my family tends to fall into a rut. We eat basically the same things each week with little variation. I think the biggest part of it is that it’s just easier to go with what I know works and what will be eaten with little fuss.
However, sometimes, you need to break that rut–and it can lead to some delicious new discoveries!
I was recently introduced to Fischer & Wieser sauces and invited to give a couple of their most popular products a try: The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce® and Mom’s Garlic & Basil Spaghetti Sauce.
What it is:
An incredible line of sauces, jellies and pie fillings made from old family recipes in Texas. Their award-winning line is widely available throughout the US and most recently the UK too. With over a 100 products available there is a flavor to satisfy anyone’s palate and their stunning bottles make wonderful gifts this Christmas season!
I’ll start with the spaghetti sauce, because pasta is one of my family’s staple meals (really, I think I need a 12-step program for pasta. LOVE IT!). Mom’s Garlic & Basic Spaghetti Sauce lives up to it’s name; it looks more like a sauce mama would make compared to your typical jarred tomato sauce.
You can see all the fresh ingredients, which includes California tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil and more. It smelled wonderful cooking and tasted fantastic. My family loved it!
My only complaint about the product: the price! If you go to www.jelly.com, a 14 oz. jar costs $6 and a 24oz jar is $8.50! I also understand the sauce is sold at Costco, so I’m not sure what it would cost there. I agree that you get what you pay for, but at that price, this is a sauce I would likely use for special occasions only and not just for a routine dinner.
The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce® was something entirely new to me and my family. If you go to Fischer & Wieser’s website, you’ll see that it has won awards as a bbq sauce, salsa and a condiment.
I’m not exactly sure how to categorize this sauce, either, because you can use it for any of those things. I used it on chicken breast. My husband and I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure how I would like it because I’m not usually into fruity or spicy sauces. The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce® is really neither of those things; it’s a nice blend of sweet and flavorful, with just a hint of spice.
My girls weren’t as fond of this one because of the texture and different taste (hey, it’s not ketchup or regular bbq sauce.) I plan on serving it again. Again, cost is a bit of a deterrent: online it’s $9.95 a for a 15.75 oz bottle, but go to the website and see where you can find it locally. However, I will say that since you don’t need a lot to get the flavor, it would last you a while and might be worth the investment. :)
